LWI/NYSC/FRSC Community Health and Road Safety Programme in Ijumu Local Government, Kogi State, 26th September 2014

The Road Safety Club of the NYSC in Kogi State in collaboration with LiveWell Initiative LWI and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) carried out a Health and Safety programme on the 26th September for the people of Iyamoye Community in Ijumu Local Govt of Kogi State.

The aim of this programme was to reduce the occurrence of road accidents through public enlightenment and sensitization.In attendance was the Obaro of Iyamoye Oba Salaudeen Ibrahim, other members of the royal cabinet, Federal Road Safety officials and members of NURTW (Kogi State Chapter).

The programme commenced with an opening prayer by the Chief Obaba of iyamoye Mr S.A Aminu.Then there was an introductory speech by the Cadet-in-chief of NYSC Road Safety Club Mr Cletus Achuenyi. Thereafter there was a lecture on traffic rules, use of road signs and road safety precaution which was delivered by Mr I.U James of the FRSC.

Mr Kayode Awokoya of the LWI Academy faculty took the stage to give a lecture  to raise awareness on the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) which comprised of the epidemiology, current situation in Nigeria, sign and symptoms, mode of transmission and prevention.

After the lecture,the participants were ushered to the health stands for screening which consisted of Blood Pressure and Random Blood Glucose Level.Antioxidants and supplements were distributed freely to the participants alongside condoms and Ebola awareness campaign materials such as stickers and fliers.
