GHB2014 Day 1: Local Content Day, May 14th 2014

The Grand Health Bazaar GHB is a 3-day Annual Multi-sectoral Healthcare event 3-in-1 Exposition, Plenaries and Health Fair organised by LiveWell Initiative LWI, which brings together all Sectors of the Economy under the fulcrum of healthcare. This year, GHB2014, the 4th in series focused on various sectors, Day 1: Local Content Day took place at Havilah Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos – Nigeria as scheduled on Wednesday, May 14th 2014.

The event which was flagged off by Her Royal Highness HRH the Erelu of Lagos, Abiola Dosunmu; was well attended by technocrats from all walks of life including professional bodies, Universities, Department of Petroleum Resources DPR, State and Federal Institutions, Women’s Professional Groups and Private Sector Practitioners. The theme for the day centred on ‘Sustaining Wealth Creation through Health-enhanced Africapitalism’, while the sub-theme was ‘Promoting the Eco-system through Power, Oil & Gas Operations’.

The principal partners were Shell Nigeria SPDC, GE Healthcare, Swiss Biostadt Limited, Coca-Cola Nigeria, Chellarams Plc, Standard Organisation of Nigeria, Nigeria-Britain Association NBA, IntraHealth International, Delta Airlines among others. GHB2014 had in all, over 40 corporate partners and over 120 exhibitors with about 2,000 Participants across the 3-days.

The CEO Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company SNEPCO Mr Anthony Attah, during his speech delivered by the GM Local Content Development, Engr Austin Uzoka, commended the organisers of GHB. He looked at local content from the very essence of local clothing to local utilisation of locally sourced implements and related this to the ecosystem. The CEO of GE Nigeria Dr Lazarus Angbazo, ably represented by Mr Peter Phillip, Team Lead Supply Chain SSA, in his speech explained the relevance of the health system and the ecosystem and a credible supply chain system. He also explained the role of GE Africa in improving the ecosystem through its local content sourcing and innovation, which is the keyword in GE. The Biostadt Group CEO, Mr. Emma Ajayi, tackled the main theme, explaining the role of Tony Elumelu in highlighting Africapitalism as the way to go, for the African economy to truly emerge.

Her Royal Highness Erelu Abiola Dosunmu, Director NEPAD Business Group, moderated over the Plenary Session on the main theme titled ‘Promoting the Ecosystem through Power, Oil & Gas Operations’, which was joined by Human Resources Dept. DPR Mr J.I Igbudu and General Manager Swiss Biostadt Limited Mr N.A.E Mohammed. The Technical Adviser to His Excellency the Honourable Minister of Agriculture Dr Akinwunmi Adesina on Cassava Value Chain, Mrs Oluwatoyin Adetunji, spoke on local content with special emphasis on the wheat-to-cassava local content initiative of government. The NBA President, Mr Peter Muir, spoke shortly before her, as a Moderator at a second Plenary Session.

Her Royal Highness the Erelu of Lagos, along with the Hon Commissioner Energy and Mineral Resources Lagos State Engr Taofeek Tijani, ably represented by Head of Oil & Gas Lagos State Government, Engr Ososba and Shell MD’s representative, jointly led the Exposition Tour.

In addition, they each toured through the LWI Health Fair, where they were availed of several health screenings. The Erelu of Lagos graciously ran a quick health screening by checking her stress level and blood pressure at GHB2014.

The afternoon session hosted an HRH (Human Resource for Health) Session powered by IntraHealth Int’l, at which Dr Adenike Adewakun presented a stimulating paper, whilst Dr. Shola Alabi participated actively in the audience.
